EXPERTISE

PCI helps clients effectively manage their natural resources and improve food production on a sustainable basis, alleviate poverty and improve the overall welfare of rural population. PCI is also involved in empowerment and training of rural population through people participatory projects which aim to build and strengthen relationships between rural organizations and the local and central government, and establish shared understanding and encouraging stakeholders to participate in the planning of resource development.

PCI has developed agriculture projects for rural villages and also a wider spectrum of projects covering both upstream improvement activities (such as watershed conservation and management, reforestation) and downstream protection activities (such as flood control). PCI has also managed large-scale projects such as the development of basins covering several thousand square kilometers.

PCI offers services for agriculture and rural infrastructure development projects to support and catalyze agriculture and rural economic development. These projects provide investment in the basic infrastructure required by the communities, and enhance the capabilities and self-reliance of the rural communities to reduce poverty. Requested infrastructure includes irrigation/drainage systems, rural roads and bridges, village water supply systems, sanitation facilities, etc. The formula adopted on many community development projects is to provide facilitating planning advice, training and raw materials under the project, while the local people contribute their labor. In Indonesia, community participation in the projects increased far beyond expectations from a great sense of community ownership and pride, and resulted in high attention to quality and avoidance of waste.
